7 Rules for Giving (Part 3) Rules #4, #5, and #6

RULE #4
LEARN NEVER TO GIVE UNDER PRESSURE

Most folks who give under pressure are giving in FEAR – someone must have lied to them that if they don’t give a special seed they’d die or not get blessed or miss their breakthrough.
A person who makes you give under pressure is trying to scam you of your hard-earned money – run away from them.
Anything that’s given under pressure isn’t real in God’s sight, it’s fake.

2 Corinthians 9:5-6 TLB
5 So I have asked these other brothers to arrive ahead of me to see that the gift you promised is on hand and waiting. I want it to be a real gift and not look as if it were being given under pressure.
6 But remember this—if you give little, you will get little. A farmer who plants just a few seeds will get only a small crop, but if he plants much, he will reap much.

The purpose of verse 6 isn’t to try to project the fact that some giving is SMALL (LITTLE), while others are BIG, or that God automatically accepts a big gift and rejects a small one. The basic idea conveyed here is that the outcome of our giving will always correspond to its input – LITTLE here refers to an ATTITUDE, especially that of GREED, SELFISHNESS, SELF-CENTREDNESS – HOW you give will determine WHAT you’ll receive.

RULE #5
IT’S OUR RESPONSIBILITY TO DECIDE WHAT WE WANT TO GIVE

2 Corinthians 9:7 TLB
7 Everyone must make up his mind as to how much he should give. Don’t force anyone to give more than he wants to, for cheerful givers are the ones God prizes.

RULE #6
GOD GIVES YOU SO  THAT YOU CAN GIVE BACK, AND NOT WITHHOLD

Luke 20:9-16 (TPT)
9 Jesus taught the people this story: “Once there was a man who planted a vineyard, then leased it out to tenants and left to go abroad and was away for a long time. 10 When the harvest season arrived, the owner sent one of his servants to the tenants to collect the landowner’s share of the harvest. But the tenants sent him away, beaten and empty-handed. 11 So the owner dispatched another one of his servants to collect his portion. But the tenants treated him the same way. They cursed him, beat him, and sent him away empty-handed. 12 Then the owner sent a third servant, but they brutalized him also with the same treatment. 13 Finally the owner of the vineyard said to his son, ‘Perhaps if I send you, my cherished son, they will be ashamed of what they’ve done.’ 14 “But when the tenants saw the son coming, they schemed among themselves. ‘This is the heir of the vineyard! If we kill him, the inheritance will be ours.’ 15 So they threw the son off the property and killed him. ‘I ask you, what do you think the owner of the vineyard will do to those who murdered his son? 16 He will come and destroy them and give his vineyard to another’.

One of the cheapest ways to be poor or broke all the time is to cultivate the habit of withholding what we have received from God. The reason is that everything God gives us is a SEED, and it needs to be sown, and the major way it’s down is to be given away – the more we give out, the more we get refilled so that we can give out again.

Attempts to withhold are the simple reason that so many folks live in lack, inadequacy and insufficiency.

2 Corinthians 9:10-11 TLB
10 For God, who gives seed to the farmer to plant, and later on good crops to harvest and eat, will give you more and more seed to plant and will make it grow so that you can give away more and more fruit from your harvest. 11 Yes, God will give you much so that you can give away much, and when we take your gifts to those who need them they will break out into thanksgiving and praise to God for your help. Hallelujah!
