7 Meanings of the Death of Jesus (Part 5)

‘Oh, foolish Galatians! What magician has hypnotised you and cast an evil spell upon you? For you used to see the MEANING OF JESUS CHRIST’S DEATH as clearly as though I had waved a placard before you with a picture on it of Christ dying on the cross’ (Galatians 3:1, TLB)

Meaning #1: IT MEANS WE HAVE BEEN RESCUED FROM THIS EVIL WORLD IN WHICH WE LIVE

Meaning #2: IT MEANS WE HAVE BEEN GIVEN RIGHT STANDING WITH GOD

Meaning #3: IT MEANS WE HAVE BEEN MADE FREE – We’re FREE

Meaning #4: IT MEANS WE HAVE BEEN BLESSED WITH EVERY (not some) BLESSING IN HEAVEN

Meaning #5: IT MEANS WE HAVE BEEN ADOPTED INTO GOD’S GLORIOUS FAMILY

Meaning #6: IT MEANS WE HAVE BEEN LAVISHED WITH AN OVERABUNDANCE OF GOD’S KINDNESS AND FAVOUR

Meaning #7: IT MEANS WE HAVE BEEN BROUGHT VERY NEAR TO GOD AND ESTABLISHED N HIS EVERLASTING PEACE COVENANT

Ephesians 2:13-15 TLB
13 But now you belong to Christ Jesus, and though you once were far away from God, now you have been brought very near to him because of what Jesus Christ has done for you with his blood.
14 For Christ himself is our way of peace. He has made peace between us Jews and you Gentiles by making us all one family, breaking down the wall of contempt* that used to separate us.
15 By his death he ended (dissolved) the angry resentment between us (ethnic hatred – TPT), caused by the Jewish laws that favoured the Jews and excluded the Gentiles, for he died to annul that whole system of Jewish laws. Then he took the two groups that had been opposed to each other and made them parts of himself; thus he fused us to become one new person, and at last, there was peace.

Speaking about God’s Peace, it’s wrapped up in the Person of Christ –
• First, we BELONG TO CHRIST
• Second, this Christ to whom we belong is our WAY of PEACE – meaning, without Jesus, there can be no lasting peace – no true peace –

It’s a peace that passes all understanding –
In Christ, we’ve become God’s ambassadors of peace, saddled with the responsibility to spread and establish this peace in places and situations. Going for peace in any situation by our actions and words should be our first point of duty before any other thing, despite our rights or influence –

See Hebrews 12:14 (The Passion Translation)
‘In every relationship be swift to choose peace over competition, and run swiftly toward holiness, for those who are not holy will not see the Lord’.

Did you see that? Be swift to choose PEACE – it’s your choice, it’s your decision. This means you should try to avoid QUARRELS as much as you can. I guess you know why! You belong to Jesus, the PRINCE OF PEACE – our WAY OF PEACE – Through His death, He didn’t only bring us God’s peace, but He also established us in it. So, despite the pressure stemming from a situation you’re in, your first, last, and best option should be peace. It’s only by acting that way that you’ll see God’s speedy intervention and glory.

That’s why amid the fierce storm at the sea, all Jesus could use to deal with the situation was PEACE, because it’s a weapon – yes, PEACE IS A WEAPON.

Ephesians 2:19 gives us one of the tremendous outcomes of this peace, and remember, the moment you choose a path other than peace, that blessedness will be married or tampered with: ‘Now you are no longer strangers to God and foreigners to heaven, but you are members of God’s very own family, citizens of God’s country, and you belong in God’s household with every other Christian’.

An interesting truth is revealed in verse 20: “What a foundation you stand on now (which foundation is Paul talking about? The FOUNDATION OF PEACE): the apostles and the prophets; and the cornerstone of the building is Jesus Christ himself!” (What he’s saying is that the prophets, apostles, and Jesus Himself, lived – acted, spoke and did everything based on the stipulation of that foundation called PEACE – that’s why it’s states in Hebrews 12:14 that we should AVOID ALL FORMS OF QUARRELS – FOLLOW peace).

Also, see Ephesians 4:3 (TLB)
3 Try always to be led along together by the Holy Spirit and so be at peace with one another.

Colossians 1:20-22 (TLB)
…for Christ’s death on the cross has made peace with God for all by his blood.

If we’re ever going to be at peace with one another; if we’re ever going to be able to follow peace; if we’re ever going to be able to avoid quarrels, then it’ll be imperative to always try to be led by the Holy Spirit. The path the Holy Spirit will always lead us to is the path of peace. Anytime you’re not walking on the path of peace, it simply means you’re not being led by the Holy Spirit.

Ephesians 4:31-32
31 Stop being mean, bad-tempered, and angry. Quarrelling, harsh words, and dislike of others should have no place in your lives.
32 Instead, be kind to each other, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, just as God has forgiven you because you belong to Christ.
