This might sound too real to be true, yet it’s the plain truth about how God sees His people by virtue of the finished work of Christ. And all He wants from you is to start you is to take Him for His Word. Now take a look at this Scripture:

“WELL THEN, SHALL we keep on sinning so that God can keep on showing us more and more kindness and forgiveness? Of course not! Should we keep on sinning when we don’t have to? For sin’s power over us was broken when we became Christians and were baptized to become a part of Jesus Christ; through his death the power of your sinful nature was shattered” [Romans 6:1-3 TLB]

All what is said in the underlined expression in Romans 6:1-3 is a present hour reality. As a matter of fact the statement reveals the present spiritual condition of all Christians, irrespective of their denominational background, skin colour, height, size and nationality.

Dear friend, a present hour reality reveals the way God sees you, your physical circumstances notwithstanding.

God wants you to know and live with the consciousness that even though you still live in a world that’s dominated by sinfulness, yet the power of sin over your life has been completely broken. The simple but truthful implication of this is that sin doesn’t have power over you anymore. This must be heartily embraced and made an integral part of your daily thoughts.

Suffice it to say that God’s Word doesn’t leave us in the dark about when this happened. According to our opening Scripture, this happened the day you became a Christian.

Speaking by the Holy Spirit, Paul tells us that this privilege of enjoying a lifetime of absolute victory over sin is exclusively reserved for CHRISTIANS. What this means is that if you’re not a Christian, then, sin still has power over you.

Now, I’m left with this pertinent question: Who’s a Christian? You see, going to church or being born or raised by godly parents doesn’t in any way make you a Christian. The Living Bible rendition of Romans 8:9 leave us with the best definition ever of who a Christian is. Take a look at what it says: “But you are not like that. You are controlled by your new nature if you have the Spirit of God living in you. (AND REMEMBER THAT IF ANYONE DOESN’T HAVE THE SPIRIT OF CHRIST LIVING IN HIM, HE IS NOT A CHRISTIAN AT ALL)”.

Did you see that? God’s Word teaches us here that “a Christian is ANYONE who’s indwelt by the Holy Spirit – the Spirit of God – the Spirit of Christ. “But the man who isn’t a Christian can’t understand and can’t accept these thoughts from God, which the Holy Spirit teaches us. They sound foolish to him because only those who have the Holy Spirit within them [Christians] can understand what the Holy Spirit means. Others just can’t take it in” [1Corinthians 2:14 TLB].

You need to know that the Holy Spirit doesn’t live in your mind, soul or body. He lives in your born again spirit, and the only condition that warrants His coming to indwell your spirit is to be born again; a deliberate act of accepting Jesus in your life as Saviour and Lord. You do this by believing in your heart in the person and the finished work of Christ, and confessing Him with your mouth, according to Romans 9:9-10.

If the Holy Spirit doesn’t live in our bodies, what exactly does the Bible mean when it says that we’re the Temple of the Holy Spirit? When the Bible says we’re the temple of the Holy Spirit, it doesn’t in any way imply that the Holy Spirit lives in our bodies. Rather, it means that our bodies house the dwelling place of the Holy Spirit, which is our born again spirits.

So it’s only when you get born again that you’re fit spiritually to be indwelt by the Holy Spirit; and it’s at that point that God recognizes you as a Christian.

Impelled by the Holy Spirit, Paul tells us that becoming a Christian marks the end of the dominion of sin over our lives. That’s because at the new birth the power of sin over us isn’t just broken, but we’re freed from the law of sin and death [the power house of sin], and enthroned into the God-kind of life through the law of the Spirit of life in Christ [Romans 8:2 TLB]. It’s the presence of this new law at work in our born again spirit that guarantees our complete victory over the power of sin. Hallelujah!

The point I’m making is that through Christ’s death, the power of your sinful nature was shattered. At His burial, that sin-loving nature was buried as well; and at His resurrection, a supernatural platform was generated to guarantee your access into the wonderful life of God – ZOE, according to Romans 6:2-4.

God’s Word further teaches us that being born again establishes us in a supernatural union with Christ, in which we become one with Him [1Corinthians 6:17].

Hence, as He’s, so are we in this world. The advantage of this is that when you become a Christian, you start living in the class of God. You share everything He has. It’s with this understanding that Paul tells us that we’re heirs of God, and joint heirs with Christ [Romans 8:17].

My take here is that, in the light of God’s Word, you stand the chance of gaining everything by being a Christian. Don’t allow anyone to lie to you.

The truth is, as a Christian, you’re destined for a lifetime of uncommon advantage; a positioned attained through being born again; which keeps you in spiritual union with Christ. Just as Christ asserted in John 10:30 that He’s one with the Father, similarly, you’re one with Him.

The good news that comes with such a union is that, just as Christ lived on earth without sinning, in spite of the temptations that He faced [Hebrews 4:15]; you can equally live a-sin-free life because in Christ, you’ve been supernaturally endowed to live that way, and given that “as many as received him, to them gave he power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on his name” [John 1:12].

In Christ, the power of sin over your life has been totally broken. You’re free from sin forever. Your duty is to stop thinking, talking, acting and praying like a sinner, because you’re not.

The issue here is this: if you continue in sin, it’s not because sin’s power is still at work in your life. No! It’s because you’ve deliberately chosen to yield yourself to sin thereby turning yourself a slave to sin, given that “… you can CHOOSE your own master? You can choose sin (with death) or else obedience (with acquittal). The one to whom you offer yourself – he will take you and be your master, and you will be his slave” [Romans 6:16 TLB].

I had to say all this in order to establish that as a Christian “Do not let sin control your puny body any longer; do not give in to its sinful desires. Do not let any part of your bodies become tools of wickedness, to be used for sinning; but give yourselves completely to God – every part of you – for you are back from death and you want to be tools in the hands of God, to be used for his good purposes. Sin need never again be your master, for now you are no longer tied to the law where sin enslaves you, but you are free under God’s favor and mercy” [Romans 6:12-14 TLB].
