Dear friend, one of the ways to enjoy the fullness of what you have is to have a working knowledge of its possibility. In his letter to the Christians in Rome, speaking by the prompting of the Holy Spirit, Apostle Paul reveals that, “And if children, THEN HEIRS; HEIRS OF GOD, AND JOINT-HEIRS WITH CHRIST; if so be that we suffer with him, that we may be also glorified together” [Romans 8:17].
Speaking further on this, Paul writes thus to the church in Ephesus “THAT THE GENTILES SHOULD BE FELLOW HEIRS, and of the same body, and PARTAKERS OF HIS PROMISE IN CHRIST by the gospel:” [Ephesians 3:6].
Clearly, Paul drives the same point home; as a Christian, you’re an heir of the promise. But this is my point: what exactly does it mean to be an heir of the promise?
- It Means That You Have Been Adopted Into God’s Family
So God’s your Father. What this means is that the same Spirit in Jesus, which is the Spirit of the Father is now in you permanently. This explains why God’s Word teaches us that as Christians, “…we have received, not the spirit of the world, but THE SPIRIT WHICH IS OF GOD; that we might know the things that are freely given to us of God” [1 Corinthians 2:12].
Speaking by the Holy Spirit, Apostle Paul tells us that: “And because ye are sons, God hath sent forth the Spirit of his Son into your hearts, crying, Abba, Father. Wherefore thou art no more a servant, but a son; and if a son, then an heir of God through Christ” [Galatians 4:6-7]
Reading Galatians 4:6-7 from The Living Bible makes it even clearer: “And because we are his sons God has sent the Spirit of his Son into our hearts, so now we can rightly speak of God as our dear Father. Now we are no longer slaves, but God’s own sons…”
- It means that Everything God Has Belongs to You
In his letter to the Church in Galatia, Paul quipped: “Now we are no longer slaves, but God’s own sons. And since we are his sons, EVERYTHING HE HAS BELONGS TO US, for that is the way God planned” [Galatians 4:7 TLB].
This is awesome! Paul tells us further that: “For ALL THINGS ARE YOURS; ALL ARE YOURS;” [1 Corinthians 3:21-22]. So go ahead and enjoy them because they have been given to you by the living God to enjoy [1Timothy 6:17].
To be an heir of God and a co-heir with Christ means that just like Abraham you have been made a partaker of the promise of God in Christ, which has qualified you for adoption into God’s family and a rightful and authoritative owner of everything that belongs to God.
Another Thing: What Belongs to God?
It’s important to know what belongs to God because such knowledge will determine the scope of appropriation of what belongs to you, given that what belongs to God belongs to you. The following scriptures will prove relevant to help you get that knowledge:
1 The earth is the LORD’S, and the fullness thereof; the world, and they that dwell therein.
10 For every beast of the forest is mine, and the cattle upon a thousand hills.
11 I know all the fowls of the mountains: and the wild beasts of the field are mine.
12 If I were hungry, I would not tell thee: for the world is mine, and the fulness thereof.
29 And Moses said unto him, As soon as I am gone out of the city, I will spread abroad my hands unto the LORD; and the thunder shall cease, neither shall there be any more hail; that thou mayest know how that THE EARTH IS THE LORD’S.
5 Now therefore, if ye will obey my voice indeed, and keep my covenant, then ye shall be a peculiar treasure unto me above all people: FOR ALL THE EARTH IS MINE:
14 Behold, THE HEAVEN AND THE HEAVEN OF HEAVENS IS THE LORD’S THY GOD, THE EARTH ALSO, WITH ALL THAT THEREIN IS.
1 Chronicles 29:11
11 Thine, O LORD, is the greatness, and the power, and the glory, and the victory, and the majesty: FOR ALL THAT IS IN THE HEAVEN AND IN THE EARTH IS THINE; thine is the kingdom, O LORD, and thou art exalted as head above all.
5 I HAVE MADE THE EARTH, THE MAN AND THE BEAST THAT ARE UPON THE GROUND, by my great power and by my outstretched arm, and have given it unto whom it seemed meet unto me.
6 And now have I given all these lands into the hand of Nebuchadnezzar the king of Babylon, my servant; and the beasts of the field have I given him also to serve him.
1Corinthians 10:26, 28
26 For the earth is the Lord’s, and the fullness thereof.
28 …for the earth is the Lord’s, and the fullness thereof:
The scriptures above point to one thing: THE WHOLE EARTH AND EVERYTHING IN IT BELONGS TO GOD. So, just like Abraham, who was known as the “…possessor of heaven and earth:” [Genesis 14:19], in Christ, you have equally been made the possessor of heaven and earth. That’s why the Psalmist cleverly remarked: “O LORD, how manifold are thy works! In wisdom hast thou made them all: THE EARTH IS FULL OF THY RICHES” [Psalm 104:24].
- It means that God Has Blessed You with Every Blessing
Again, Paul leaves with an undeniable truth on this when he says: “Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who hath blessed us with all spiritual blessings in heavenly places in Christ” [Ephesians 1:3].
As an heir of God and a co-heir with Christ, your blessing isn’t a promise, rather it’s a reality; it has been done already. You see, what I mean is that God’s not going to bless you sometime in the future. No! He has ALREADY blessed you with all spiritual blessings in heavenly places in Christ, whether you feel it or not. His Word says so and that’s what’s important.
Besides knowing all these, it’s important also for you to know how to exercise your checking privileges in order to start tapping into what belongs to you, because they’re meant to be enjoyed here on earth.
So, my next question is: How do I exercise my checking privileges in order to start tapping into what belongs to me?
Simple! It’s through faith. It’s not about how you feel, for we walk not by sight [feelings] but by faith [2 Corinthians 5:7]. Everything about your Christian walk with God is based on faith. Look at the trend: you became Abraham’s seed by being born again, and that was done by faith. Through the same faith you became a legal heir of God’s blessing [Romans 8:17]. Let it suffice to say that it’s also through faith that you’ll have to release your inheritance in Christ to operate in your life here on earth. That’s why God’s Word teaches us “That the blessing of Abraham might come on the Gentiles through Jesus Christ; that we might receive the promise of the Spirit through FAITH” [Galatians 3:14].
Concerning Noah, for instance, we’re told that: “By faith Noah, being warned of God of things not seen as yet, moved with fear, prepared an ark to the saving of his house; by the which he condemned the world, and BECAME HEIR OF THE RIGHTEOUSNESS WHICH IS BY FAITH” [Hebrew 11:7].
So, concerning the question “How do I exercise my checking privileges in order to start tapping into what belongs to me?,” it’s done by FAITH!
