My wonderful and dear readers, once again I’d like to welcome you to this glorious and exceptional 2017, in spite of what’s happening around the world. The reason why I say so is because of God’s Word which surpasses everything, and we have this assurance in the Word in Isaiah 60:2-3 “For, behold, the darkness shall cover the earth, and gross darkness the people: but the LORD shall arise upon thee, and his glory shall be seen upon thee. And the Gentiles shall come to thy light, and kings to the brightness of thy rising”.
I had to say this because of what I want to share with you on this post. As a Christian, you need to be aware of the fact that you have a supernatural advantage. In a natural sense, an advantage is anything that helps you to be more successful than others. Being born again comes with a lot of supernatural advantages, which when properly harnessed, will guarantee your success in every area of your life. One thing I want you to know is that, God doesn’t want you to continue to struggle in life. He doesn’t want you to keep failing. All He wants for you is the best; a life that’s characterized by effortless success in all your endeavours. That’s why it’s referred to as SUPERNATURAL ADVANTAGES. They’re God-ordained and God-empowered. The platform that places such an advantageous life within your reach is the NEW BIRTH. In Jesus’ conversation with Nicodemus, one of the things He emphatically told him was: “Unless you are BORN AGAIN, you can never get into the kingdom of God” [John 3:3 TLB].
What Jesus meant here is that living the supernaturally advantaged life is a privilege that’s exclusively reserved for those who are already members of the Kingdom of God. As of those who are still outside God’s Kingdom, accessing this awesome life of supernatural advantage can only be possible through being born again.
You see, being born again endows you with a lot of supernatural virtues and qualities, which are meant to facilitate life for you on earth, if only you understand how to leverage on them. The simple implication of this is that, being born again makes all the difference. That’s all you need in order to access what God has for you, because it’s your gate way into the supernatural. Once you’re born again, you become a bonafide member of God’s supernatural family that’s temporarily resident on earth, given that you’re born of God. So, if you’re born again already, congratulations. We’re on the same page. In case you have read this far, but you’re not yet born again, I’d strongly suggest you do so right away before you continue reading, and what I want to say now will guide you on how to do that.
To be born again means to believe in Jesus and His finished work in your heart and then confess Him as your Lord and Saviour with your mouth according to Romans 10:9-10. When you do this, instantly, you receive God’s complete forgiveness of all your sins, and are consequently indwelled by the Holy Spirit. That’s because the moment you get born again, you become the temple of God, and that’s why you’re indwelled by the Holy Spirit, according to 1 Corinthians 6:19. That marks the beginning of your journey into a life of supernatural advantage, where you’re endowed with supernatural virtues by the Holy Spirit, to succeed where others fail. I’m sure you’d like to be born again, because that’s why the Holy Spirit compelled me to publish this post. If you’re set to be born again, I want you to pray this simple, yet powerful prayer of faith:
“Dear God, according to Romans 4:25, I believe in my heart that Jesus died for my sins, and rose again to make me right with you, in order to fill me with your goodness. I also confess with my mouth that Jesus is Lord. Today, I accept Jesus into my heart as my Personal Lord and Saviour.
In accordance with Romans 10:10, which say if I believe with my heart and confess with my mouth, I will be saved, I know that from now henceforth: I am born again; I am a new creation in Christ, old things are passed away, behold, all things have become new. I have the very life of God in me; I am God’s righteousness in Christ. I am lifted with Christ and together we are seated in heaven at the right hand of the Father, far, far above principalities and powers. Just as Christ is, so am I in this world, in Jesus’ Name”. Amen.
Congratulations! You’re now born again. Welcome to God’s supernatural family built on the foundation that’s Christ.
Now that you’re born of God, I’d like to show you one of the supernatural advantages that you have been endowed with as a result of your relationship with Jesus. It’s SUPERNATURAL ENDOWMENT WITH FULL SPIRITUAL UNDERSTANDING
I have said earlier that an advantage is anything that helps you to be more successful than others. Being born of God endows you supernaturally with a new dimension of spiritual understanding. This doesn’t just make you advantageous, but you’re “The Advantage.” This might seem too real to be true, but simply put, it’s nothing but the truth. Take a look at what Apostle Paul wrote to the Christians in Corinth: “I can never stop thanking God for all the wonderful gifts he has given you, now that you are Christ’s: he has enriched your whole life. He has helped you speak out for him and has given you a FULL UNDERSTANDING of the truth” [1Corinthians 1:4-5 TLB]. Wow! Did you see that? In Christ, we have been given a FULL UNDERSTANDING of the truth.
One of the things John the Baptist taught his audience was the limitation in understanding that comes with our natural birth, which is otherwise referred to as an earthly life. Speaking about himself because of his natural birth, John quipped: “I am of the earth and my understanding is limited to the things of the earth” [John 3:31 TLB]. What this implies is that, without the NEW BIRTH, which turns us into supernatural beings as a result of the fact that at the new birth, our born again spirit is indwelled by the Holy Spirit, every human remains carnal-minded and full of mental limitations. To be mentally limited signifies being mentally grounded.
Prior to John’s statement in John 3:31 about his limitation in understanding stemming from his natural birth, he had remarked earlier that being from heaven gives a person an added advantage of being above all. Referring to Jesus, John explained that “He has come from heaven and is greater than anyone else…” [John 3:31 TLB] Being greater than anyone else or above all, includes in understanding.
Let it suffice to say that being born again, which is synonymous with being born of God, is likened to being from heaven [that is, from above]. Saying that Jesus came from heaven implied that He was born of God. The angel who came to announce to Mary that she was going to be pregnant didn’t hesitate to tell her that fact about Jesus: “And the angel said unto her, Fear not, Mary: for thou hast found favour with God. And, behold, thou shalt conceive in thy womb, and bring forth a son, and shalt call his name JESUS” [Luke 1:30-31].
This was the encounter which Mary had with God’s angel. Inquisitively, she asked the angel “But how can I have a baby? I am a virgin” [Luke 1:34]. The angel’s reply was a pointer to the fact that Jesus was born of God: “The Holy Spirit shall come upon you, and the power of God shall overshadow you; so the baby born of you will be utterly holy – the Son of God” [Luke 1:35 TLB].
The angel told Mary clearly that even though she was going to deliver Jesus naturally, He was to be holy because He was born of God. In other words, what the angel was saying is that Jesus came from heaven [above]. Being born of God gave Jesus unlimited understanding. That’s what John the Baptist meant when he spoke of Jesus as being greater than all, after pointing to the fact that he [John] was of limited understanding because he was earthly.
The question now is this: “Was Jesus aware that He came from heaven [that is, born of the Father?” The answer is “Yes”. He tells us that by Himself when He says: “Yes, I came from the Father into the world and will leave the world and return to the Father” [John 16:28 TLB]. Jesus further tells us the following related to His being born of the Father: “And this is the way to have eternal life – by knowing you, the only true God, and Jesus Christ, the One you sent to earth. For I have given them the words which you have given Me; and they have received them, and have known that I CAME FORTH FROM YOU and they have believed that you sent me” [John 17:3, 8 TLB, NKJV].
Do you know what Jesus did here? He taught His disciples that He came forth from the Father, even though He was born on earth naturally. To come forth from the Father means that Jesus was born of the Father; He was born of God, and being born of God means that He is from above, and consequently, is above all. He’s greater than all. Though born naturally of Mary, Jesus had a supernatural relationship with the Father, which superseded all other natural relationships, and that was the reason for His influential life on earth. This supernatural relationship with the Father gave Jesus access, by the Holy Spirit, to unlimited understanding.
In John 14:1-3, Jesus decides to tell His disciples more about His heavenly origin; and clearly tells them that He was working out something for them to be with Him there forever.
I want to establish the fact that being earthly means to be of earthly origin. This speaks of being biologically connected to earthly parents. What makes a person earthly is the fact that they came into the world through a biological birth, as a result of the copulation of a sperm and an ovary from a male and female parent respectively. Just like John the Baptist, every human who came into this world through such a means is earthly and of a limited understanding. John recognized this, so he could say, “I am of the earth and my understanding is limited to the things of the earth” [John 3:31 TLB].
This trait of limited understanding related to being earthly was also displayed by Nicodemus when he met Jesus at night to ask questions. His limitation in understanding moved Jesus to say, “You, a respected Jewish teacher, and yet you don’t understand these things? I am telling you what I know and have seen – and yet you won’t believe me when I tell you about such things as these that happen here among men, how can you possibly believe if I tell you what is going on in heaven? [John 3:10-11 TLB].
Jesus leaves us with something very important here: understanding breeds faith. Nicodemus couldn’t believe in what Jesus told him because he had limited understanding. Luke tells us in his account in Luke 24:13-14, 17-27, 45 [TLB] that the disciples whom Jesus met on their way to Emmaus after His resurrection had a similar challenge of limited understanding. While speaking with these disciples, Jesus said some striking things about the fact that being earthly keeps people in limited understanding – a kind of limitation that prevents them from getting a hold of spiritual truths. One day, Jesus quipped: “Oh, there is so much more I want to tell you, but you can’t understand it now” [John 16:12 TLB].
In spite of the fact that Jesus had so much to tell His disciples then, He wouldn’t because being earthly, limited their understanding of spiritual truths. This however wasn’t supposed to be a permanent mental state except if they had chosen it to be so for them by ignoring God’s call to be born again. Jesus’ desire to teach His disciples deeper spiritual realities was impeded by the limited understanding, which emanated from the fact that they weren’t born again yet. So Jesus told them out-rightly that they needed help, which was eminent because of the coming of the Holy Spirit. This was only going to happen at the NEW BIRTH, considering that that is the only time that they were going to be indwelled by the Holy Spirit. What Jesus told them was “When the Holy Spirit, who is truth, comes, he shall guide you into all truth, for he will not be presenting his own ideas, but will be passing onto you what he has heard. He will tell you about the future” [John 16:13 TLB]. Such unlimited understanding that turns out to be an added advantage to anyone who gets born again, is traceable to the Holy Spirit.
Beloved, at the new birth [that is, when you’re born again], your born again spirit is permanently indwelled by the Holy Spirit, whose primary responsibility is to continuously boost up your spiritual understanding supernaturally.
How Does He Do That?
Going by what Jesus said in John 16:13, the Holy Spirit does that in two ways. Firstly, by guiding you into all truth, as He explains God’s Word [thoughts and ideas] to you. Secondly, by giving you insight into the future.
Having your spiritual understanding boosted by the Holy Spirit is an added supernatural advantage that always keeps you ahead of the world, sinners, unbelievers or those who have never been born again. To be born again means being on the lead all the time because of your unlimited understanding. What happens supernaturally is that, when you get born again, you’re just like God, even though physically speaking you still look the same you. The truth is, you’re not just like God, but you’re one with Him. He lives in you, and you live in Him [1Corinthians 6:17]. What makes this possible is the fact that you now have the same Spirit God has in you. His Word tells us so in 1Corinthians 2:12. Considering that only the spirit of a man knows his thoughts, God’s Spirit in you gives you supernatural access to God’s thoughts – 1Corinthians 2:11. The implication of this is that, you can now think like God. This simply means that at the new birth, you possess the mind of Christ – 1Corinthians 2:16.
Jesus said something repeatedly when He prayed for His disciples and all those who would be born again through their message; that they weren’t of the world even though they lived in the world – John 17:14, 16 [TLB]. Actually, Jesus was looking forward to sometime in the future when His disciples would be born again, because at the time He said this, they hadn’t been born again. Also, being born again is the only spiritual experience that certifies a man as not being of the world even though he lives in it. When you’re born again, you lose your earthly identity, and receive in return a new identity that is heavenly. This identity puts you in the class of God – 2Corinthians 5:17. Attesting to this, Jesus said, “I am not an earthly king…” [John 18:36 TLB]. Through being born again, we’re made kings and priests unto Him – Revelation 1:6; 5:10. You need therefore to know that the reason why Christ made up His mind to obey God concerning man’s redemption, in spite of the pains He suffered, was to guarantee the believers’ being in the supernatural presence always, given that it’s where He’s all the time. He has always wanted His followers to be there with Him, even while still living on earth – John 14:2-3.
Through the new birth, what Jesus said in John 14:2-3 becomes a spiritual reality in your life. You’re transported into God’s marvelous kingdom – Colossians 1:13; 1Peter 2:9. In his epistle to the Christians at Ephesus, Paul says the present spiritual status of Christ, and His followers – believers – all those who have been born again – is far, far above any other king or ruler or dictator or leader – Ephesians 1:19-21 [TLB].
Did you hear that? Christ hasn’t only been raised from the dead, but He has also been seated in the place of honour, an honour that’s far more glorious than that of anyone else in both the present world and in that to come. That place is at the right hand of God – a place that’s far above any other king, ruler, dictator, leader. In other words, He’s seated right in the very Presence of God – Acts 2:33 [TLB].
1Corinthians 6:17 tells us that at the new birth every believer is one spirit with Christ. He lives in us and we live in Him. That means where He’s that’s exactly where we’re spiritually. Paul tells us that in Ephesians 2:4-6 [TLB].
This is good news indeed. As a sinner, you were nowhere to be found. You were lost and doomed for destruction. You were limited in your understanding because you were earthly. But because of what Jesus did, God found you. Now that you have been born again, you have a brand new life – God’s very life – in you. In your union with Christ, you’re living with Him where He’s presently at the right hand of God in heaven. Just as He has been lifted, that’s how you have been lifted. His honour is now yours; His dominion is now yours; and His mind is what you have, so you can think and understand like Him. The implication of this is that at the new birth we’re born of God, and that automatically means we have a new origin – we’re from heaven. Just like Jesus, we’re kings and priests of a kingdom that’s not of this world [John 18:36-37; Revelation 1:6; 5:10 TLB]. Thus, our supernatural advantage is that through this supernatural relationship with the Godhead, by the indwelling Presence of the Holy Spirit, we receive a boost in our spiritual understanding [John 17:14-16]. Being born again takes you beyond the realms of this material world.
Clearly, being born again positions you to be called a citizen of heaven, even though you live on earth presently. It’s just a temporary stay. So like Christ, you can boldly declare that you’re from above – heaven and that you’re above all because you have been endowed with unusual spiritual understanding. Believe me, this is your supernatural advantage. Learn to leverage on it as long as you live in this world. You’re a different person entirely. Take a look at what Paul told the Christians in Corinth in 1Corinthians 1:4-5 [TLB].
The reason why you have full understanding of the truth is because you’re Christ’s. That means it’s because you’re born again. There’s no room for confusion in your life anymore. Trust me, you can’t be confused, and the simple reason is because your life isn’t void of understanding. Walk in this knowledge and awareness that in Christ you have been enriched with a full understanding of the truth.
Now, You Can Pray This
Dear heavenly and lovely Father, I thank you for the privilege of being born again and incorporated into your supernatural family. I thank you because presently I am seated with Christ at your right hand in heaven; a place of far more glorious honour; loaded with a full understanding of the truth in Jesus’ Name. Amen!
